Dynasty Warriors Producer Prefers New Games Over Remasters

Tomohiko Sho, the producer behind Dynasty Warriors, stated his career focus is on developing new games, not revisiting old ones through remasters.

While Sho hasn't ruled out future remasters, he's not eager to take them on. Following the release of Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered, he told 4Gamer (translated) that further remasters depend on this release's performance. He indicated a personal preference against directing them.

"I can't comment definitively, nor have I considered it. But, it's not out of the question we might remaster titles not yet on Steam," Sho said. "However, frankly, I don't want to. It's nearly a full remake. Even this time, I questioned myself, 'Why am I remaking something I originally created?' I'm in my fifties now. I often think about how many more games I can develop before retirement, so I'd rather create new titles or sequels."

Sho isn't entirely against remasters. He acknowledges fan demand and suggested he might delegate remaster projects to other team members while he concentrates on new games and sequels.

Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered updates the original PlayStation 2 title, an early entry in the series, using Unreal Engine 5. It marks the franchise's 25th anniversary and is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Player reception on Steam has been "Very Positive."
