German publication Kicker states that Union has initiated discussions with Pisa for the 29-year-old, who recently became a permanent fixture at the Italian club after an initial loan spell from Bologna.

Sources suggest Union has tabled an offer of approximately €3 million for Aebischer. While some Italian reports indicate a deal might be close, Kicker emphasizes that significant gaps remain between the clubs. Nevertheless, negotiations are continuing. Sport Bild and Swiss outlet Blick also corroborate that Union is in a favorable position in the race for Aebischer. Bild further reports that the midfielder has already declined overtures from other Bundesliga and Italian clubs in favor of a potential move to Köpenick.

Aebischer would bring considerable experience to Union's central midfield. The 44-time capped Swiss international participated in the recent World Cup and has amassed substantial experience in Italy since his transfer from Young Boys to Bologna.
