Nadiem Amiri Uncertain About Staying at Mainz 05, Cites Fan Expectations

Mainz 05 and German international midfielder Nadiem Amiri has refrained from giving a definitive commitment to remain with the club past the summer transfer window. He stated his reluctance to make a promise he might be unable to honor. The 29-year-old discussed his future during Mainz's training camp in Hopfgarten, Austria, amidst ongoing rumors of a potential transfer to RB Leipzig.

When questioned about playing for Mainz in the 2026/27 season, Amiri deflected the speculation with a generalized response. While he didn't make a direct commitment, his statements suggested an openness to moving on if a suitable opportunity arises.

Nadiem Amiri Discusses His Future with Mainz

“At the moment, my focus is solely on Mainz 05, and nothing else is important,” Amiri stated. “Circumstances can always change. That’s precisely why I didn’t commit at the end of last season either. I don’t want to let the fans down. I’m not the kind of person to say ‘I’m staying’ and then leave a few weeks later.”

Recent reports indicated Amiri's strong interest in joining RB Leipzig, with claims of a preliminary agreement with the Saxon club. However, current reports suggest that Leipzig has not yet made an official offer, and Amiri himself has downplayed the rumors.

“They are not even a consideration,” the former Leverkusen player remarked. “Someone had an idea, but neither Mainz, Leipzig, nor I have commented on it. Why should we even discuss it now?”

Amiri’s statements neither constitute a transfer request nor a firm declaration of intent to stay. While he maintains a strong connection to Mainz, he is unwilling to rule out the possibility of pursuing an attractive sporting prospect before the transfer window closes.
