Borussia Dortmund Goalkeeper Diant Ramaj Linked with Return to FC Copenhagen

Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Diant Ramaj might be heading back to FC Copenhagen for another loan spell, as discussions are ongoing about his potential departure from the German club.

According to Danish publication Bold.dk, as well as reports from Sky Germany and Kicker, Copenhagen is currently negotiating with Dortmund for the 24-year-old. The terms being discussed include a loan deal with an option to buy, though an agreement has not yet been finalized.

Kicker indicates that Ramaj has not yet traveled to Denmark. Despite this, the goalkeeper is reportedly open to returning to Copenhagen, where he had a successful loan period during the latter half of the 2024/25 season. The proposed purchase option is said to be around €5 million, which is close to the initial amount Dortmund paid Ajax to acquire Ramaj in February 2025.

Ramaj has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for Borussia Dortmund.

A Return to Copenhagen Would Reunite Ramaj with a Successful Loan Club

Dortmund signed Ramaj from Ajax for €5 million in February 2025 and he signed a contract until 2029, before being immediately loaned to Copenhagen. During his time with the Danish club, Ramaj played 19 matches, conceding just 14 goals and keeping ten clean sheets, contributing to Copenhagen's domestic double title.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt prospect had also indicated during his previous loan that he considered regular playing time crucial for his development. In an interview in March, Ramaj expressed significant self-confidence while acknowledging the difficulty of displacing Gregor Kobel at Dortmund.

Last summer, Get German Football News reported that Ramaj had no desire to simply be a backup goalkeeper. This prompted Dortmund to explore another loan move. Heidenheim eventually became the preferred option. After the clubs reached an agreement, Ramaj returned to his former academy club and was immediately made the starting goalkeeper.

GGFN covered the surprising decision to place Ramaj ahead of long-serving goalkeeper Kevin Müller, providing the Dortmund loanee with the regular Bundesliga minutes he sought. Ramaj remained a consistent starter despite Heidenheim's challenging relegation campaign.

GGFN's winter assessment of the player noted that his raw statistics, including a low number of clean sheets and a high number of goals conceded, did not accurately reflect his individual performances behind one of the league's weakest defensive units.

Dortmund's Goalkeeping Pathway Remains Blocked

Ramaj has since returned to Dortmund, but his path to the first team remains effectively closed. Kobel is firmly established as the club's primary goalkeeper, with Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes, and Silas Ostrzinski providing additional depth. Ramaj was also excluded from Dortmund's preseason tour of Japan, further indicating that he is not a significant part of the club's immediate plans. Meanwhile, Copenhagen may soon be in need of a new goalkeeper.

For Dortmund, a loan deal with a €5 million purchase option could offer a way to recoup most, if not all, of the fee invested in Ramaj 18 months ago. For the goalkeeper himself, the primary motivation remains the same: consistent playing time.
