Why De Bruyne postponed Napoli medical and contract set for today

Football News

Kevin De Bruyne has opted to defer the finalization of his transfer to Napoli, choosing instead to complete his commitments with the Belgian national team first.

The midfielder was initially anticipated to undergo his medical examination at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome today and subsequently sign a two-year contract with the Partenopei, which includes an option for a third season.

However, the Manchester City player decided to prioritize his participation in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with Belgium.

This decision merely delays his move to Naples by a few days and does not indicate any change in his plan to join the club after his contract with Manchester City expired.

He is now scheduled to complete the necessary medical tests and sign his contract next week, after which he will reportedly take a summer vacation with his family.

The 33-year-old is expected to receive an annual salary of approximately €5.5 million, in addition to a €10 million signing-on bonus.

De Bruyne`s official arrival at Napoli appears imminent, where he is set to work under coach Antonio Conte as the reigning Italian champions prepare for the upcoming season.
