VfB Stuttgart has officially announced the permanent transfer of 24-year-old defender Lorenz Assignon from Stade Rennais.
Assignon joined the Rennes academy in 2015 and progressed to the first team in 2021. He has made over 70 senior appearances for the French club. During his time at Rennes, he also gained valuable experience through loan spells at Bastia in Ligue 2 and Burnley in the Premier League.
After returning from his loan spell at Burnley, Assignon played a significant role for Rennes last season, featuring in 34 games across all competitions. He contributed four goals and five assists despite the team`s struggles, which saw them finish in mid-table. This transfer marks his departure from the club where he developed as a player.
Stuttgart confirmed the signing on Friday, stating Assignon has agreed to a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.
Although the exact transfer fee was not disclosed, reports indicate the deal is worth approximately €15 million, including potential bonuses.
