Sylvain Ripoll features on Lens’ shortlist to replace Will Still

Football News

RC Lens is still actively searching for a new manager, nearly two weeks after Will Still`s unexpected departure. Still has since secured a new position with Southampton in the EFL Championship, while his former club appears no closer to finalizing their next head coach appointment.

Luís Castro of USL Dunkerque was previously considered a candidate, but the Portuguese coach is reportedly nearing a move to FC Nantes instead. Lens is also understood to be unwilling to meet the compensation demands from Dunkerque for his release. According to a report from Foot Mercato, Les Sang et Or are now focusing on three primary names for the role.

One prominent candidate is Sylvain Ripoll from EA Guingamp. The former France U21 manager successfully guided Guingamp to the Ligue 2 promotion play-offs last season, a performance that has prompted his current club to push for a contract extension. Lens` interest could potentially complicate these negotiations. Other names on the shortlist reportedly include former Olympique Lyonnais boss Pierre Sage and ex-Schalke head coach Karel Geraerts.
