Football News

Fresh off winning their first UEFA Champions League title, Paris Saint-Germain is being tipped as the favorite to secure more silverware this summer.

According to Opta, the reigning Ligue 1 champions are the front-runners to win the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Luis Enrique`s squad is one of 32 teams from around the globe competing. Opta`s supercomputer gives PSG an 18.5% chance of winning the competition, narrowly ahead of Manchester City (17.8%).

Bayern Munich is rated as the third favorite with odds of 12.8%, followed by Champions League runners-up Inter Milan (12.3%). Real Madrid rounds out the top five with a 9.8% chance.

In a group that includes Atlético Madrid, the Seattle Sounders, and last year`s Copa Libertadores winners Botafogo, the French champions are given a 75.4% probability of advancing to the quarter-finals.

This tournament marks the first appearance for Paris Saint-Germain in the competition, and they are also the first French club ever to participate.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday, with former PSG forward Lionel Messi leading Inter Miami onto the field against Egyptian club Al Ahly.

PSG begins their campaign on Sunday against Atlético Madrid. They will then face Botafogo on June 19, before concluding the group stage four days later against the Sounders.

All of their opening-round matches are scheduled to take place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
