This significant move is anticipated to become a new club record for Sunderland. The transfer fee for Diarra, potentially including add-ons, could reach €35 million, surpassing an earlier bid from Leeds United. Sunderland recently achieved promotion to the Premier League after their play-off victory.
The Black Cats had been seeking midfield reinforcements following the departure of Jobe Bellingham to German giants Borussia Dortmund.
