Sunderland AFC has officially announced the signing of highly-rated Strasbourg midfielder and captain, Habib Diarra, aged 21. The Black Cats, who recently achieved promotion to the Premier League by defeating Sheffield United in the play-off final, have reportedly invested a club record transfer fee to secure the services of the Senegal international.
Diarra has committed his future to Sunderland AFC by signing a five-year contract.
“I’m happy and excited to become a Black Cat and I can’t wait to discover the Stadium of Light and its fans,” the Senegalese midfielder commented upon joining. “Everyone saw last season’s success and I guarantee that I’ll give everything for this team and fight for these colours in the Premier League. I’m ready for this challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”
Strasbourg had anticipated Diarra’s departure and have already taken steps to replace him, signing 21-year-old midfielder Pape Demba Diop from Zulte-Waregem.
