Sunderland AFC has announced the signing of Strasbourg`s highly-rated midfielder and captain, Habib Diarra (21). The Black Cats, who recently secured promotion to the Premier League by winning the play-off final against Sheffield United, are reported to have shattered their previous club record fee to bring in the Senegalese international. The 21-year-old`s valuation is reportedly set at €37 million by the club.
Diarra has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Sunderland AFC. The Senegalese midfielder expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m happy and excited to become a Black Cat and I can’t wait to discover the Stadium of Light and its fans.” He added, “Everyone saw last season’s success and I guarantee that I’ll give everything for this team and fight for these colours in the Premier League. I’m ready for this challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”
Strasbourg had anticipated Diarra`s departure. The French club, often referred to as the Alsatians, has already signed a replacement: 21-year-old Pape Demba Diop from Zulte-Waregem.
