Samuel Gigot Joins Lazio Permanently from Marseille

Football News

Reports suggest that central defender Samuel Gigot, aged 31, is set to make his move to SS Lazio permanent. The Italian club reportedly met specific performance-based conditions during his loan spell, triggering a clause to complete the transfer from Olympique de Marseille for a fee estimated at €3.5 million.

The French player initially arrived at Lazio on the final day of the summer 2024 transfer window. His departure from Marseille came after he lost his regular starting position following the appointment of head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Prior to this, Gigot had been a significant figure in the Marseille squad, even stepping in as captain in the absence of Valentin Rongier.

While earlier reports had indicated that the centre-back might have hoped to conclude his career at Marseille, his future now appears to be firmly with the Italian side. He featured in 23 matches for Lazio across all competitions during the recent season. Despite the team`s efforts, Lazio finished the season just outside the European qualification spots, concluding their campaign with a defeat to US Lecce.
