Samuel Gigot Completes Permanent Move to Lazio from Marseille

Football News

Reports indicate that defender Samuel Gigot, aged 31, is set to remain at SS Lazio on a permanent basis. The Italian club has reportedly triggered specific sporting conditions within their loan agreement with Olympique de Marseille to finalize the transfer, with the fee believed to be around €3.5 million.

The French centre-back initially arrived at Lazio on the final day of the summer 2024 transfer window. This move occurred after he saw his place in the Marseille squad diminish following the arrival of new head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Prior to this, Gigot had been a crucial member of the team at Marseille and had even served as stand-in captain in the absence of Valentin Rongier.

Before his loan spell began, there were suggestions that Gigot had hoped to finish his playing career at Marseille. However, his long-term future now appears to be tied to the Italian capital club, for whom he made 23 appearances across all competitions. Despite his contributions, Lazio`s season ended with disappointment as they failed to qualify for European competition after suffering a defeat to US Lecce on the final day.
