Rennes to Rival Leeds and Fulham for Mainz’s Anthony Caci

Football News

Rennes are reportedly targeting FSV Mainz defender Anthony Caci, aged 27, as a potential successor for full-back Lorenz Assignon, who is set to join VfB Stuttgart. However, the French club could face significant competition from teams in the Premier League.

Assignon, who was a regular starter at right-back for Rennes last season, is currently in Germany finalizing his move to Stuttgart, with the deal expected to be completed very soon. In anticipation of his departure, Rennes are actively working to secure a replacement, with their focus reportedly on Mainz`s Caci. His current contract with the Bundesliga side is due to expire at the end of the next season.

While Mainz are reportedly hopeful of extending Caci`s contract, the defender, valued at approximately €10 million, is attracting interest from several clubs. Apart from Rennes, Premier League teams Leeds United and Fulham are also said to be keen on the Frenchman, as is German side Borussia Dortmund. Rennes are reportedly considering Kiliann Sildillia from Freiburg as an alternative option if they cannot secure Caci.
