Real Madrid’s star player, Vinicius Junior, delivered a moment of brilliance to salvage a 1-1 draw for Brazil in their 2026 World Cup opener against Morocco.
The Brazilian team started the match sluggishly and found themselves trailing by the 21st minute. Isamael Saibari put Morocco ahead, skillfully chipping the ball over the approaching goalkeeper after receiving a precise pass from Brahim Diaz.
However, Vinicius Junior brought his team back into contention just after the half-hour mark. The 25-year-old forward unleashed a powerful shot into the top of the net from the left side of the penalty area, leveling the score.
Brazil pressed for a winning goal in the second half but was unable to capitalize on their opportunities, ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw.
Despite a performance that was far from convincing, Vinicius Junior’s impact on the field was a significant positive for the Brazilian supporters. The attacker enters the tournament in strong form, following a remarkable season with Real Madrid where he scored 22 goals and provided 14 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti may need to heavily depend on Vinicius Junior, known for his blistering pace, dazzling footwork, and clinical finishing, if Brazil aims to reach the World Cup final.
The five-time World Cup champions are scheduled to play their next match against Haiti on Friday, followed by their final group stage game against Scotland on June 24.
