RB Leipzig has decided against activating the purchase option for defender Kosta Nedeljković, indicating that the 20-year-old will not secure a permanent move to the German club. Nedeljković recently received his first call-up to the Serbian national team since September, playing seven minutes against Spain as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.
Currently on loan at the Saxony-based club from Aston Villa, Leipzig possessed a €10 million purchase option for the right-back. However, the club has opted not to exercise this clause. This decision comes as Nedeljković has found himself lower in the squad hierarchy, behind key players such as Ridle Baku and Benjamin Henrichs.
Initially, Nedeljković displayed promising form, featuring in 10 of a possible 14 games during the early phase of his loan. Despite this, Leipzig chose not to make the transfer permanent at that time but instead extended his loan for another year. Nevertheless, his playing opportunities have significantly diminished this season, with only five Bundesliga appearances. Though he was reportedly close to joining Fiorentina in January, it is now evident that the Serbian defender is not part of RB Leipzig’s future plans.
