Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly facing a substantial fine following an incident where numerous fans stormed the pitch during Champions League celebrations. According to reports, supporters caused damage by tearing up sections of the grass and cutting the nets in the area where PSG scored their initial goals.
This damage has reportedly led UEFA to consider imposing significant penalties on the club, who recently won the Champions League. PSG could also face fines for the use of pyrotechnics and the unauthorized pitch invasion that occurred after the final whistle.
While the playing surface at Allianz Arena was subsequently repaired in time for an upcoming match, the cost of these repairs is expected to be billed to Paris Saint-Germain. Efforts by police to control the invasion on the night were insufficient to prevent the damage before all fans were removed.
The club`s historic first Champions League victory resulted in widespread celebrations in both Munich and Paris. Police shared details about the disturbances, noting that around 100,000 supporters gathered in the city center to celebrate PSG`s triumph.
Confirming details, a total of 563 arrests were made across the weekend, with 491 of those in the capital. Authorities indicated they had to respond to instances of `violent disturbances` during and immediately after the celebratory events.
