The most important match of the year for Inter is fast approaching, as they are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Many fans have followed the team to Monaco, including Paolo Bonolis. He traveled with his two sons, dreaming of seeing the Nerazzurri lift the prestigious European trophy once again.
Recalling a previous final, Bonolis told Il Giornale: “I remember going to Istanbul two years ago completely without hope. I thought we would go there and get five goals against us, but at least I`d show my son a beautiful city. Instead, we came so close to winning the match, and what should have been a normal defeat turned into a bitter disappointment. This time, we are going with a bit more hope.”
The well-known television host also joked about the potential Man of the Match: “Anyone would be fine, even the masseur who trips, hits the ball, and scores, or the referee scoring with his whistle. Seriously though, with Inzaghi`s system, anyone can be lethal. We saw defenders like Acerbi and Pavard score. All that`s left is for Sommer to score a header on a counterattack. That would be fantastic.”
Bonolis also focused on the league season, which saw Inter finish second behind Napoli: “We are a generous club. We gifted the Scudetto to Milan two years ago, and this time to Napoli. We are altruistic. When you are competing in three such important competitions, you need a much deeper squad. Inter had depth in defence and midfield, but we had obvious difficulties in attack.”
