Ousmane Dembélé to Miss PSG’s Club World Cup Group Stage

Football News

Paris Saint-Germain has received a significant setback ahead of the Club World Cup tournament. Forward Ousmane Dembélé, aged 28, has withdrawn from the French national squad after sustaining a quadriceps injury. The French Football Federation confirmed on Friday that medical examinations had revealed a strain in his quadriceps.

Reports indicate that the severity of this injury is expected to sideline the player, who was recently named Champions League Player of the Season, for PSG`s initial three matches in the Club World Cup group stage. Such an injury typically necessitates an absence of approximately two weeks, not including additional time needed for full recovery and integration back into team training.

Consequently, the timing of the injury suggests Dembélé will be unavailable for PSG`s fixtures against Atlético de Madrid on June 15, Botafogo on June 20, and Seattle Sounders on June 23. It is also understood that PSG currently does not intend to sign a new striker specifically to cover for Dembélé`s temporary absence.
