AC Milan striker Divock Origi, who earns a substantial €4 million net salary annually despite limited play, is reportedly demanding an additional €2 million severance payment to agree to an early termination of his contract.
The Rossoneri club is actively working to clear out players to make room for new signings and reduce the wage bill. This follows the departures of players whose contracts expired or loan deals ended.
Origi a Dead Weight for Milan Finances
Origi represents a significant financial burden that Milan is keen to resolve. He joined on a free transfer from Liverpool in 2022, signing a lucrative contract worth €4 million net per season (around €5.2 million before tax).
However, the Belgian forward made only 36 competitive appearances for Milan before being loaned out to Nottingham Forest. Upon his return, he was deemed surplus to requirements and was not included in the senior squad`s plans, reportedly being registered instead with the Milan Futuro (reserve) team and not featuring at all in the recent season.
Despite his contract running until June 2026, reports from Calciomercato.com indicate that Origi is refusing to mutually terminate the deal unless he receives a `golden handshake` worth €2 million. This figure is equivalent to half of his annual salary.
