Football News

Fiorentina has officially confirmed the signing of defender Mattia Viti from OGC Nice. The agreement is a loan deal that includes an option for a permanent transfer. This move follows Viti`s previous loan spell at Empoli in Serie A.

The Italian centre-back successfully underwent his medical examination this afternoon and subsequently signed his contract with the club.

Speaking at the Viola Park training ground, Viti shared his excitement about joining the club. He stated that when he first heard of Fiorentina`s interest, he “immediately told my family. It didn’t seem real.”

He added, “I love the centre of Florence, it’s a city I grew up in, and I can’t wait to play at the Stadio Franchi.”

EMPOLI, ITALY – SEPTEMBER 14: Mattia Viti of Empoli FC greets the fans after during the Serie A match between Empoli and Juventus at Stadio Carlo Castellani on September 14, 2024 in Empoli, Italy.

Although Viti was born in the Florence area in 2002, he developed through the youth ranks at Empoli. He was later transferred to OGC Nice in 2022 for a reported fee of €13 million.

He has since returned to Serie A on loan twice, first with Sassuolo and most recently with Empoli, before making this return to Italy to join the Viola.

The loan agreement includes an option for Fiorentina to purchase the player outright for approximately €5 million. The deal also contains a clause granting OGC Nice 10 percent of any future transfer fee should Viti be sold by Fiorentina.

Fiorentina has been active in the transfer market this summer, having also secured the services of free agent Edin Dzeko and midfielder Jacopo Fazzini, who was Viti`s teammate at Empoli.
