Official | Reims goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle to leave the club this summer

Football News

Goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle, aged 42 and a native of Reims, confirmed on Monday his official departure from the club. Reims was relegated from Ligue 1 during the previous season.

He announced this via social media, stating, “My journey with Stade de Reims has ended.”

Butelle spent two years at his hometown club. He learned of his departure via a phone call, as his contract with `Les Rouges et Blancs` was set to expire on June 30. Despite winning the Belgian Pro League and Super Cup with Club Brugge earlier in his career, the veteran goalkeeper did not feature in any Ligue 1 matches for Reims after arriving from Red Star FC in 2022.

During the past season, Reims reached the Coupe de France final but lost 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain. They will compete in France`s second division next season, having been relegated after losing their play-off match against FC Metz, the club where Butelle began his senior career.

Butelle`s extensive career includes nine La Liga appearances for Valencia, a short loan at Valladolid, two previous stints with Angers SCO, and spells at clubs like Lille OSC and Nimes.
