Rennes has officially confirmed that their 24-year-old Danish midfielder, Albert Grønbæk, has moved to Italian Serie A club Genoa on a loan agreement that includes an option for a permanent transfer.
Grønbæk arrived at the French club just last summer in a €15m transfer from Bødo/Glimt. After an initially promising start, he reportedly faced difficulties under coaches Julien Stéphan and Jorge Sampaoli, leading to a previous loan spell at Southampton for the latter part of the season.
Despite having been on loan elsewhere, Rennes had hoped to reintegrate Grønbæk into their squad under the new management of Habib Beye. However, the player himself preferred to seek a new environment away from the club.
His time in the Premier League with Southampton was significantly impacted by injuries, limiting him to only four appearances during the second half of the previous campaign. According to journalist Santi Aouna, the option for Genoa to make Grønbæk`s move permanent is valued at €10.5 million.
