Sunderland, a club recently promoted to the Premier League, have officially appointed Florent Ghisolfi, formerly Roma`s sporting director, as their new director of football.
Ghisolfi Joins Sunderland After Roma Departure
Ghisolfi was with Roma for the 2024-25 season, but his time there lasted only a year. He left the club at the end of the season and has been succeeded by Frederic Massara.
Sunderland announced that Ghisolfi will officially begin his role on Thursday, July 3.

Notably, Ghisolfi was involved in signing Enzo Le Fee for Roma in the summer of 2024. Le Fee later moved to Sunderland on loan with a purchase option in the winter. Following Sunderland`s promotion to the Premier League, the buy clause became mandatory, setting up a reunion between Ghisolfi and Le Fee at the club for the 2025-26 season.
Other players signed by Ghisolfi during his time at Roma included Artem Dovbyk (from Girona), Matias Soule (from Juventus), and Manu Kone (from Borussia Moenchengladbach).

In a statement on the club`s website, Ghisolfi commented on his appointment:
“The Club – players, staff, and supporters – achieved an amazing result last season. Together, these people brought Sunderland back to the Premier League, and I’m strongly determined to bring my experience and support this group to ensure the squad is ready to take the next step.
This is an exciting challenge, and I’m looking forward to working alongside Kyril, Kristjaan, and Régis, as we enjoy this exciting new chapter in Sunderland’s history, alongside our fans.”
