Nathanaël Mbuku Set for Montpellier Loan Move

Football News

Nathanaël Mbuku, the 23-year-old forward formerly of France`s U21 squad, is poised for a comeback to French football. He is expected to join Ligue 1 club Montpellier HSC on a season-long loan agreement from Bundesliga side FC Augsburg. The transfer reportedly includes an option for Montpellier to purchase the player for €1.8 million.

A product of the Reims youth system, Mbuku recently concluded a loan spell at Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb. During his time there, he featured in 20 matches across all competitions, netting two goals, including two appearances in the UEFA Champions League. FC Augsburg subsequently exercised a buy-back clause this past summer.

Having recently switched international allegiance and earned five caps for DR Congo, scoring twice since autumn 2024, Mbuku is anticipated to provide valuable attacking reinforcement for Michel Der Zakarian`s side. He joins Montpellier HSC as they compete in Ligue 1.

This move marks Mbuku`s return to the French top flight, where he previously made 77 appearances for Reims between 2019 and 2022.
