According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Napoli are increasingly likely to complete the transfer for Lorenzo Lucca. This comes as Liverpool`s financial demands for striker Darwin Nunez are deemed excessive by the Italian club.
The Partenopei had identified the need for a new centre-forward to reduce their dependence on Romelu Lukaku during the upcoming season.
Nunez was initially Napoli`s preferred target. However, despite being prepared to invest €43m for the 25-year-old, this offer was insufficient to convince Liverpool to lower their asking price of €50m.
Udinese forward Lucca was previously identified last week as a potential alternative option in case negotiations for Nunez failed to progress quickly. This situation now appears to have materialized.
Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia reports that Napoli have decided to shift focus and pursue Lucca instead of Nunez.
The 24-year-old Italian represents a considerably more affordable option, expected to cost around €30m. Lucca is also reportedly hoping this move will help him break into the Italy national squad.
This potential signing follows recent transfer activity by Napoli, including reaching agreements with PSV Eindhoven for Noa Lang and making progress on a deal for Bologna winger Dan Ndoye.
