From early on, it became apparent that Youssoufa Moukoko (20) would not have a lasting role at OGC Nice.
He joined Nice last summer on a season-long loan from Borussia Dortmund. The agreement included an option for a permanent transfer valued at €18m, but it soon became clear this option would not be activated.
Moukoko managed only two goals for Nice, both scored in the emphatic 8-0 victory against Saint-Étienne in September. While often a substitute in Ligue 1 during the initial part of the season, he received more playing time in the Europa League to demonstrate his abilities. However, he failed to score in eight Europa League matches as Nice finished second-to-last in the group stage without any wins.
Following Nice`s exit from the Europa League, Moukoko`s involvement decreased significantly. His final appearance in any competition was against Stade Briochin in the Coupe de France in early February; his last Ligue 1 start was in October.
Consequently, Nice CEO Fabrice Bocquet confirmed Moukoko`s departure at the end of the Ligue 1 season. The German player is also not expected to return to Borussia Dortmund.
According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Copenhagen is nearing an agreement to sign the forward permanently. Moukoko has reportedly agreed to join the Danish club, and the final details of the transfer are being settled.
