Following recent reports linking AC Milan with veteran midfielder Luka Modric, the club is now also said to be exploring the possibility of signing Bayer Leverkusen`s Granit Xhaka for the 2025-26 season under new coach Massimiliano Allegri.
It has been reported that an agreement is already in place for Modric to join Milan and undergo a medical examination next week, despite the Real Madrid star nearing his 40th birthday.
This focus on experienced players appears to stem from Allegri`s coaching philosophy, which historically values the presence and leadership of veterans over younger, less seasoned individuals. This preference is reportedly a driving factor behind the interest in Xhaka as well.
Xhaka, the Switzerland international, will turn 33 in September. While currently under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2028, sources suggest he could potentially be available if the right offer and project are presented.
According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Milan`s interest in Xhaka is still in its preliminary phase, and there has been no direct communication between the clubs or player representatives at this point.
Last season, the former Arsenal midfielder was a key player for Bayer Leverkusen, making 49 appearances in all competitions, contributing two goals and seven assists.
