Olympique de Marseille are reportedly interested in acquiring Spanish defender Óscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo. While Marseille is keen, the reported €20 million release clause is proving to be a hurdle in negotiations, although talks are ongoing between the clubs.
Marseille continues to seek defensive options this summer, even after securing the signing of young English defender CJ Egan-Riley. Mingueza, who is 26 years old, brings versatility, being capable of playing both center-back and full-back – positions where OM faced depth challenges last season due to injuries and suspensions.
This past season, Mingueza made 34 appearances for Celta Vigo, contributing six assists. A graduate of Barcelona`s renowned La Masia academy, he previously played 46 times for the Catalan giants. His performances have also led to recent call-ups for the Spanish national team, including involvement in the UEFA Nations League final this season.
Should a deal for Mingueza be finalized, he would become Marseille`s third signing of the transfer window, following Egan-Riley and midfielder Angel Gomes, who is set to join on a free transfer from Lille.
