Olympique de Marseille has reportedly initiated discussions with Juventus forward Timothy Weah, exploring a potential transfer back to France this summer. While no official bid has been submitted, Weah is said to be receptive to Marseille`s vision for the club. However, Marseille faces competition, notably from Leeds United in the Premier League.
The versatile player, capable of operating as a winger or wing-back, has appeared 78 times for the Italian club. He is a candidate for a summer exit, fitting Marseille`s need for offensive reinforcements following Luis Henrique`s departure. Weah`s ability to cover both full-back positions (where Amir Murillo is the only specialist) and forward roles makes him an attractive option.
His key asset is his adaptability, being able to play right-back, wing-back, or winger, and occasionally even centrally. Acquiring Weah would complement the potential signing of Facundo Medina, who is viewed as a hybrid defender for the left side under Roberto De Zerbi`s prospective system.
Although he was a regular under Max Allegri, Weah`s game time reduced after Igor Tudor took charge in March. Over two seasons in Turin, he registered 78 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 7 assists. His career includes spells at PSG, Celtic, and winning Ligue 1 with Lille in 2021, alongside Champions League and international caps. He featured once for the US team in the recent Club World Cup, where they were eliminated in the round of 16.
