Marseille Offered Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta

Reports originating from L`Équipe indicate that Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, aged 27, has been proposed as a potential signing for Olympique de Marseille.

It is understood that Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi aims to bolster the team`s attacking options as the club prepares for its upcoming return to the Champions League competition.

However, according to journalists Mathieu Grégoire and Emery Taisne from L`Équipe, the 27-year-old`s current financial terms are not considered viable for Marseille at this time.

The French striker had a notable season, featuring in 37 Premier League matches and scoring 14 goals. He also participated in Thierry Henry`s France Olympic squad at the Paris 2024 tournament last summer, contributing seven goals in eight appearances en route to earning a silver medal.

Mateta joined Crystal Palace in 2022 from German Bundesliga club Mainz. Since arriving at the Premier League side, he has scored a total of 36 goals in 116 appearances.
