Marseille Identify West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd as Priority Defensive Target

Football News

Olympique de Marseille are bolstering their defensive line this summer. Despite finishing second in Ligue 1 last season, OM`s defense frequently showed weaknesses, prompting manager Roberto De Zerbi and sporting director Medhi Benatia to prioritize its enhancement.

Two new players have already arrived to strengthen the back line. CJ Egan-Riley joined OM after his contract with Burnley expired. Facundo Medina from RC Lens has also arrived for a substantial fee. He is expected to partner with his compatriot and club captain, Leonardo Balerdi, assuming Balerdi remains at the club. Balerdi himself is reportedly a target for Juventus, although Marseille intends to keep him.

Further defensive additions could still be made. Nayef Aguerd (29) of West Ham United has been identified as a priority target for the French club. However, there is interest from other clubs abroad in the Moroccan centre-back. Aguerd also commands a significant salary at West Ham, who are expected to demand a considerable fee to let their defender leave, potentially complicating a move to the Vélodrome.
