Olympique de Marseille is actively seeking to add two more experienced central defenders to their squad. This comes as coach Roberto De Zerbi plans to implement a back four formation for the next season, which will see the club return to the UEFA Champions League. Among the players Marseille is considering is Chelsea defender Benoît Badiashile, aged 24.
Marseille`s search for a new centre-back has linked them with several prominent names in the past, including Aymeric Laporte, Facundo Medina, and Nayef Aguerd. Reports from earlier this year had already suggested that signing the Chelsea defender could be a potential option.
Recent information indicates that Badiashile remains a player of interest for Marseille. The club is also reportedly closing in on other targets, such as Facundo Medina from Lens. Additional names on Marseille`s list include Óscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo and Ramy Bensebaïni, 30, from Borussia Dortmund.
During the most recent season, the former Monaco player Badiashile made only 19 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. Competition for places in the starting lineup under new coach Enzo Maresca is expected to become even tougher over the summer transfer window.
