Manchester City Monitoring Xavi Simons as Cherki Plan B

According to a report from L`Equipe, Manchester City are keeping an eye on RB Leipzig`s 22-year-old attacking midfielder Xavi Simons. He is being considered as a potential option should their pursuit of Lyon`s Rayan Cherki (21) fail.

The Dutch international`s loan spell at the Bundesliga club was made permanent by PSG last winter for a fee of €50m. However, with Leipzig failing to qualify for European football next season, Simons is widely expected to depart the club this summer.

L`Equipe suggests that Manchester City are among the clubs interested in Simons. Nevertheless, City`s primary focus appears to be securing the signature of Lyon`s attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki. The 21-year-old French international has not yet formally agreed to a move to the Etihad Stadium, although City are reported to have intensified their efforts recently.

While a personal contract agreement is said to be nearing completion between Cherki and City, this does not mean Cherki has committed without considering offers from other teams. Manchester City are expected to submit an official bid to the Ligue 1 club in the near future.
