According to a report from **L’Equipe**, Manchester City is monitoring RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons (22) as a potential alternative should their efforts to sign Lyon`s Rayan Cherki (21) prove unsuccessful. Simons, a Dutch international, initially joined Leipzig on loan, but the move was made permanent last winter for a €50m fee from PSG, before add-ons. With Leipzig failing to secure European football for the upcoming season, Simons is anticipated to depart the club this summer.
**L’Equipe** indicates that Manchester City is one of the clubs interested in Simons. However, City`s primary target appears to be Lyon`s attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki. While City has reportedly intensified their efforts recently, the French international has not yet agreed to a move to the Etihad. Although a personal terms agreement between Cherki and City is reportedly close, this doesn`t necessarily mean Cherki has ruled out offers from other teams. Manchester City is expected to make a formal bid to the Ligue 1 club soon.
