Sources cited by Sacha Tavolieri indicate Manchester City are still optimistic about acquiring 21-year-old Rayan Cherki from Lyon during the current transfer window, even after their initial offer was turned down by the Ligue 1 side. Discussions between the clubs are reportedly ongoing, and the attacking midfielder is keen on a move to England`s top flight.
City`s opening bid reportedly aligned with an informal agreement between Cherki and Lyon. This understanding stipulated that should the player sign a new contract, he would be brought back into the senior squad, and the club would accept an offer of €22.5 million for his transfer. Personal terms between Cherki and Manchester City are said to have already been agreed.
However, since formal release clauses are not legally recognised in French football, and this agreement was merely a promise, Lyon currently appears unwilling to accept Manchester City`s offer.
