Olympique Lyonnais`s appeal against the decision by French football`s financial watchdog, the DNCG, is scheduled for review next week, specifically on Thursday, July 10th. Sources have confirmed this date to L’Équipe. The team, currently facing financial difficulties, is attempting to reverse a significant ruling from last month that ordered their unexpected relegation to Ligue 2.
Just seven days prior, the DNCG (Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion) formally upheld Lyon`s demotion. This action followed an earlier cautionary notice issued on November 15, 2024. The ruling, made by the body affiliated with the LFP, pointed to persistent concerns regarding OL`s financial guarantees.
Michele Kang, who has just taken over as the club`s new president this week, has been tasked with leading the presentation of the appeal before the DNCG branch associated with the French Football Federation (FFF).
The implications of the appeal are immense. Should Lyon succeed in overturning the ruling and retain their position in Ligue 1, they would also be eligible to participate in the UEFA Europa League during the 2025–26 season. Conversely, if the DNCG`s initial decision is confirmed, OL will remain in Ligue 2 and will not be permitted to compete in European tournaments for the upcoming campaign.
