Paris Saint-Germain is set to compete against Inter Milan in the Champions League final tonight in Munich. This match presents Les Parisiens with a historic chance to lift Europe`s most prestigious club trophy for the very first time. Looking at French football history, their fierce rivals, Marseille, are the only other French club to have claimed the Champions League title, doing so in 1993. Interestingly, that historic victory for Les Phocéens also occurred in Munich and was against an opponent from Milan.
For manager Luis Enrique, this final offers the possibility of securing his second Champions League title, following his triumph with Barcelona in 2015. Speaking at his press conference, the Spanish coach commented, “I`m serene.” He reflected on his experience, stating, “I`m ten years older compared to my last final. I`m trying to convey to the team what a great opportunity it is to play in a Champions League final, to make history.” Enrique also noted PSG`s recent experience in high-pressure matches. Just last week, Les Parisiens clinched a domestic treble by winning the Coupe de France final against Reims with a 3-0 scoreline. “We`ve experienced these situations before,” he remarked. “The mental aspect is very important, but we`re used to it.”
The PSG head coach highlighted that the team`s challenging route to the final meant they had already faced what felt like “early finals” during this Champions League campaign. He specifically mentioned tough opponents in the group stage, including Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Atlético de Madrid. “It`s an advantage for us,” he asserted. “We`ve shown no fear.” Regarding his personal drive, Enrique stated, “My biggest motivation is to mark PSG`s history, to mark a country`s history. Being the first is what motivates me the most.”
