Ludovic Butelle Confirms Departure from Stade de Reims

Football News

Stade de Reims goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle, a 42-year-old native of Reims, announced on Monday his official departure from the club. Reims was relegated from Ligue 1 last season.

Butelle confirmed the news on social media, stating, “My journey with Stade de Reims has ended.”

The veteran goalkeeper spent two years at his hometown club. He reportedly learned of his departure via a phone call, as his contract with Les Rouges et Blancs was set to expire on June 30th. Butelle, a former Belgian Pro League and Super Cup winner with Club Brugge, did not make a single Ligue 1 appearance for Reims after arriving from Red Star FC in 2023.

Last season, Reims reached the Coupe de France final, where they were defeated 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain. The club will play in the second division of French football next season after losing their relegation play-off against FC Metz. Incidentally, Metz is the club where Butelle began his senior career.

Butelle`s career has included nine La Liga appearances for Valencia, followed by a short loan at Valladolid. He also had two previous stints at Angers SCO and played for clubs like Lille OSC and Nimes.
