Lucas Hernandez Reflects on His ‘Paradoxical’ Season at PSG

Football News

Lucas Hernandez, the 29-year-old defender, acknowledges that his first season at Paris Saint-Germain has been a mix of both positive and difficult moments.

The France international missed the initial part of the campaign while recovering from a significant ACL injury sustained at the end of the previous season. This injury not only ruled him out of Euro 2024 but also meant he wasn`t available to play for PSG until December.

Upon his return to fitness, he found it challenging to secure a consistent starting position in Luis Enrique`s defense, often competing with Nuno Mendes and Willian Pacho, who were performing consistently. Consequently, Hernandez made only 10 starts in Ligue 1 throughout the season. In PSG`s victorious UEFA Champions League journey, he featured in just five matches, starting only once.

Speaking to Téléfoot, Hernandez commented on his individual experience: “I’ve experienced the toughest moments in my career, but at the same time, the most beautiful. These are unique moments,” he stated, highlighting the contradictory nature of his season.

He also shared his feelings about the Champions League celebrations: “I was emotional… these are unforgettable moments. We wrote history for the club, for the city. It was magnificent,” the Frenchman added.
