Lucas Hernandez: A Season of Paradox at PSG

Football News

Lucas Hernandez has openly stated that his debut season at Paris Saint-Germain was a blend of significant highs and challenging lows.

The French international was sidelined at the start of the campaign, focusing on recovery from an ACL injury sustained the previous season. This injury not only cost him a spot at Euro 2024 but also delayed his first appearance for PSG until December.

Upon his return, securing a regular place in the starting lineup proved difficult. Competition from Nuno Mendes and Willian Pacho, who had been consistent figures in Luis Enrique’s defense, limited his game time. Consequently, Hernandez started just 10 Ligue 1 matches over the season. His participation in PSG’s successful UEFA Champions League run was also modest, featuring in only five games and starting just once, during the group stage match against VfB Stuttgart.

Speaking to Téléfoot, Hernandez reflected on his individual experience this season, describing it as paradoxical. He shared his perspective:

“I’ve experienced the toughest moments in my career, but at the same time, the most beautiful. These are unique moments.”

He also expressed his feelings about the celebrations following the Champions League victory:

“I was emotional […] these are unforgettable moments. We wrote history for the club, for the city. It was magnificent,”

the defender added.
