Stade de Reims midfielder Amadou Koné, aged 20, is reportedly in advanced discussions regarding a transfer to Neom SC, a club recently promoted to the Saudi Pro League.
Despite Reims` relegation to Ligue 2 during the previous season, Koné`s performances, along with that of his midfield partner Valentin Atangana, were considered strong. Due to Reims` drop to the second tier, Koné was widely expected to depart and had attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.
Clubs like OGC Nice had shown interest in the Ivory Coast youth international, and Leeds United, following their promotion back to the Premier League, were also linked with the player. However, it now appears that Koné`s next career step will be outside of Europe.
The midfielder is understood to be close to agreeing terms with Neom SC. The potential transfer fee is estimated to be around €12 million. Neom SC is also reportedly nearing the completion of a deal to sign forward Alexandre Lacazette, whose contract with Olympique Lyonnais is expiring.
