Ahead of France`s match against Germany on Sunday, star forward Kylian Mbappé, 26, was asked about his feelings regarding Paris Saint-Germain`s recent UEFA Champions League triumph, achieved after his departure from the club. Les Parisiens secured their historic first European crown by convincingly defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.
During his tenure as captain, Mbappé was unable to help PSG secure the coveted Champions League title on numerous occasions. Their closest attempt came in the 2020 final, where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich.
Last summer, Mbappé completed a highly anticipated free transfer move to Real Madrid. Many observers questioned how PSG would manage their attack without one of the world`s premier players. However, under the guidance of manager Luis Enrique, the team has performed exceptionally well, achieving an unprecedented treble domestically.
When questioned about his former team`s success in the Champions League, the French captain offered his perspective:
PSG winning the Champions League without me? It doesn’t affect me at all. It`s a positive development. In a career, there are distinct cycles. At present, I feel I am under slightly more intense scrutiny. That`s acceptable. I need to work diligently to alter this dynamic.
