Karel Geraerts tops Reims’ shortlist for new head coach

Football News

Stade de Reims is reportedly considering Karel Geraerts as their prime candidate for the head coach position, following the departure of Samba Diawara. According to L`Équipe, the Champagne club held an interview with Geraerts and was reportedly impressed by the Belgian coach`s profile.

Geraerts, who has been a free agent since leaving Schalke 04 in September, has not yet provided Reims with a definitive answer. The role presents certain challenges that could lessen its appeal. The club is likely facing player sales this summer, and the budget is expected to be constrained.

Earlier, Reims had been linked with Philippe Montanier, who has not managed a club since leaving Toulouse FC in 2023 after leading them to their historic Coupe de France title. However, Mohamed Toubache-Ter reported that discussions between the two parties have reportedly cooled.

L`Équipe suggests Olivier Dall’Oglio as a potential alternative candidate if Geraerts cannot be persuaded. Dall’Oglio recently guided AS Saint-Étienne to promotion back to Ligue 1 during the 2023/24 season.
