Stade de Reims is reportedly considering Karel Geraerts as their top choice for the new head coach position, following the departure of Samba Diawara. The club is understood to have interviewed the Belgian manager and was impressed by his qualifications.
However, Geraerts, who has been a free agent since being dismissed by Schalke 04 in September, has reportedly not yet given Reims a final response. The coaching role at Reims comes with challenges that might make it less attractive; the club is expected to need to sell players this summer, and their budget will be reduced after their relegation to Ligue 2 via the playoffs.
Reims had previously been linked with Philippe Montanier, who has not taken a head coaching position since departing Toulouse FC in 2023, shortly after guiding them to their historic first Coupe de France title. However, it is reported that discussions between Montanier and the club have cooled.
Olivier Dall’Oglio is mentioned as another potential candidate should Geraerts ultimately decline the offer. Dall’Oglio recently secured promotion for AS Saint-Étienne in the 2023/24 season, although he had been previously sacked by the club earlier in that campaign following a series of poor results.
