Several reports from Italy indicate that Juventus and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. Giuntoli had been with the Turin club for two years.
According to journalists like Gianluca Di Marzio, an agreement has been reached for Juventus and Giuntoli to separate amicably. His original contract was set to run until the summer of 2028, a five-year term signed upon his arrival.
Tuesday`s reports suggest that the decision regarding Giuntoli`s departure had already been made by John Elkann. The agreement to end their professional relationship is now finalised, and an official statement is anticipated soon.
Giuntoli`s Two-Year Period at Juventus Concludes
Juventus has already started reorganising its senior leadership following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Damien Comolli has already been appointed as the club’s new general manager, and Giorgio Chiellini is expected to step into a more senior position for the 2025-26 campaign.
The club is still expected to search for a new sporting director to take over Giuntoli`s responsibilities in the near future.
Giuntoli joined the `Old Lady` as sporting director in the summer of 2023, fresh off his previous club Napoli winning the 2022-23 Serie A title.
During Giuntoli`s initial season, Juventus was excluded from UEFA competitions, severely restricting the transfer window activity. Timothy Weah was the only significant new player signed that summer.
Giuntoli`s second summer transfer window saw notable investments, including Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta, Khephren Thuram from OGC Nice, Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina, Michele Di Gregorio from Monza, and a loan deal for Francisco Conceicao from Porto.
Under Giuntoli`s tenure, Juventus also sold several key players, including Dean Huijsen to AFC Bournemouth (who later moved to Real Madrid).
Italian internationals Moise Kean and Nicolo Fagioli were transferred to Fiorentina, Matias Soule went to Roma, and Federico Chiesa was sold to Liverpool.
Giuntoli also oversaw the appointment of Thiago Motta as head coach, although the former Bologna manager did not see out the entire 2024-25 season and was replaced by Igor Tudor in March.
