Reports originating from Italy suggest that midfielder Douglas Luiz is no longer considered essential by Juventus for the upcoming 2025-26 season. According to these reports, he has been told to look for a new club following a less-than-impressive performance during his initial season after a high-profile transfer from Aston Villa.
The Brazilian international did not manage to meet expectations since his €50 million move last summer. In the previous Serie A campaign, he played for a total of only 516 minutes across 19 appearances, which averages out to just 27 minutes per match.
Speculation has already linked the 27-year-old with potential departures from Juventus during the current summer transfer window, with rumored destinations including Nottingham Forest and, more recently, Leeds United.
Juventus Informs Douglas Luiz to Seek Transfer
Corroborating previous rumours, reports from Italian sources such as Calciomercato.com on Sunday confirmed that Juventus has indeed communicated to Douglas Luiz that he is free to seek a new team ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Sunday`s reports indicate that Juventus` hierarchy feels they cannot depend on the Brazilian player`s consistency based on his performance in his debut Serie A season. Furthermore, the new coaching setup, now led by Igor Tudor, has reportedly decided against granting him a second chance to prove his worth.
Calciomercato also suggests that Douglas Luiz will likely aim to secure regular playing time in order to either maintain his current standing or make a strong case for inclusion in Carlo Ancelotti`s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in North America.
