American businessman John Textor appears to be concluding his tumultuous period in French football following his resignation as president of Olympique Lyonnais. This decision aligns with an internal restructuring at the club, which saw Michele Kang appointed as the new Chairwoman and president earlier today.
In an official statement released via Eagle Football Group, Textor indicated his eagerness to reduce his day-to-day operational duties in Europe. He stated, “On a personal level, I am truly looking forward to the reduction of my dayto-day management responsibilities in Europe, so I can focus on markets where we have the full freedom to run our football clubs…to invest, innovate, grow and compete.”
Textor`s departure occurs shortly after French football`s financial watchdog, the DNCG, upheld a ruling last week to relegate Lyon to Ligue 2 due to financial irregularities – a decision the club is currently appealing. While Textor previously sold his shares in Premier League side Crystal Palace, his statement confirmed that Eagle Football intends to take control of another club in England.
Regarding his future focus, Textor wrote, “OL are great hands with Michele, and I will focus on Botafogo, Daring Brussels and our next club in England.” Reports in English media outlets, such as The Star, have speculated that Sheffield Wednesday could be a potential acquisition target for the American investor, among other possible clubs in England.
