Speaking ahead of France`s match against Germany, Kylian Mbappé addressed Paris Saint-Germain`s recent UEFA Champions League victory, achieved after his departure. He stated that PSG`s triumph, which saw them defeat Inter 5-0 in the final to claim their first European title, “doesn`t affect” him.
During his tenure with Les Parisiens, the France captain had multiple unsuccessful attempts to secure the club`s elusive first Champions League title. Their closest call with Mbappé was the 2020 final, where they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich.
Following his highly anticipated free transfer to Real Madrid last summer, many questioned how PSG`s attack would fare without one of the world`s top players. However, under coach Luis Enrique, the team has flourished, achieving an unprecedented treble, including the Champions League crown.
Elaborating on his feelings regarding his former club`s success in Europe`s premier competition, Mbappé reiterated, “It doesn’t affect me. It’s a good thing. In a career, there are cycles. Today, I’m a little more in the eye of the storm. It’s good. I need to work hard to reverse the trend.”
