Habib Diarra, the 21-year-old midfielder from Strasbourg, has reportedly passed his medical examination before finalizing his transfer to Sunderland. This move to the recently promoted Premier League team is expected to set a new club record fee for Sunderland, valued at €35 million.
Several other prominent clubs, including Leeds United, AC Milan, and Eintracht Frankfurt, had also shown interest in the Senegalese player. However, Diarra favored a transfer to Sunderland`s Stadium of Light. Following his successful medical, the midfielder is poised to sign a long-term contract with the North East club.
Sources like Sky Sports News suggest that Diarra`s arrival is intended to fill the gap left by Jobe Bellingham`s departure. Jobe Bellingham recently transferred to Borussia Dortmund, following the path of his brother. Diarra will be the second player joining Sunderland from Ligue 1 this summer, following the earlier signing of former Lorient midfielder Enzo Le Fée, as the club prepares for its return to the Premier League.
